Zebra at Rest

Turned away, settled on its haunches, the zebra rests in a quiet moment of its own — not posing, not running, simply at ease. There is something deeply familiar in a creature seen from behind: the curve of the spine, the fall of the tail, the pattern of stripes that belongs to this animal and no other. Cut from a single sheet of 2mm steel, every stripe stays connected, the rear profile reading as one continuous gesture of calm.

Laser-cut from low-carbon steel in a Polish workshop. The cutting beam follows each stripe with 0.1mm precision, holding the rhythm of black and white that makes the zebra unmistakable. The negative spaces between stripes — the part that carries the whole likeness — survive the cut because every line is engineered to remain structurally connected. One piece of steel, no welding, no assembly, wall-ready across all five sizes without backing or reinforcement.

Light completes the form. Mounted on standoff spacers 15mm from the wall, the panel casts a layered shadow behind the steel. The seated figure gains depth as ambient light moves through the room — sharper in direct sun, softer and more contemplative in the evening. The stripes seem to lift from the surface and settle again, a quiet animation that flat prints and framed posters cannot reach.

Four finishes to suit the room: matte black for the boldest graphic contrast against light walls, matte white for a soft presence in a nursery or bright bedroom, raw steel with a clear protective coat for an industrial warmth and metallic grain, or corten rust for a savanna-warm patina that deepens naturally over weeks and months. Five sizes from S (45 cm) to XXL (130 cm) on the longer side, each scaled to preserve the original proportions. Weight ranges from approximately 1.5 to 8 kg depending on design complexity.
