Two Rays Ascending

Two eagle rays rise through dark water, wings spread wide, tails trailing behind like ribbons caught in a current. There is something quiet about the way they move — no urgency, just the slow upward drift of creatures at home in the depth. This is the memory of standing at the glass of an aquarium, or floating somewhere blue and far from land, watching the water hold something larger than yourself. Cut from a single sheet of 2mm steel, the white-spotted pattern across each diamond body reads clearly from across the room.

Laser-cut from low-carbon steel in a Polish workshop. The cutting beam follows each contour with 0.1mm precision — fine enough to hold the dense scatter of spots across both bodies and the long taper of each trailing tail. Every spot, every wingtip, the gentle curve where pectoral fin meets body, all of it remains structurally connected to the whole. One continuous piece of steel, no welding, no separate parts joined afterward. Wall-ready, holding its form across all five sizes without backing or reinforcement.

Mounted on standoff spacers 15mm from the wall, the panel casts a layered shadow behind the steel. The rays appear to lift away from the surface as ambient light shifts through the day — sharper in direct light, softer and deeper at dusk. The stacked composition gains a quiet sense of motion as the shadow stretches and contracts, a living quality that flat prints and framed photography cannot reach.

Four finishes to suit the room: matte black for the highest contrast and the most faithful read of the original underwater photograph, matte white for coastal and Scandinavian interiors, raw steel with a clear protective coat for industrial warmth and a metallic grain, or corten rust for a weathered oceanic texture that deepens over weeks and months. Five sizes from S (45 cm) to XXL (130 cm) on the longer side, scaled to preserve the original proportions. Weight ranges from approximately 1.5 to 8 kg depending on design complexity.
