The tiger lies still on a rocky dune, front paws extended, head turned toward a distant sea. Not crouched to strike, not pacing — simply at rest, watchful, master of its own quiet. This composition descends from Eugène Delacroix's studies of big cats, painted around 1845 by Pierre Andrieu, his closest collaborator, and held today in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. Here it is reinterpreted as a single continuous piece of laser-cut steel.

Delacroix returned to the great cats throughout his career, drawn to their muscular power and the way they held stillness like a coiled spring. Andrieu, who worked beside him for years, absorbed that fascination — the rolling line of the spine, the deliberate weight of the paws, the gaze that reads as both calm and unbroken. Romantic painting prized exactly this tension: animal force held in repose, rendered with anatomical conviction against an open horizon.

Cut from a single sheet of 2mm low-carbon steel, every element stays structurally connected — the curve of the curled tail, the line of the muscular flank, the rocky terrain beneath the body. No welding, no assembly, no separate parts joined afterward. The panel is powder-coated for lasting protection: matte black for the sharpest silhouette, matte white for a softer presence in bright rooms, or raw steel with a clear protective coat that holds the natural grain of the metal. The corten rust finish develops a warm ochre patina over weeks — a surface that echoes the tiger's own coat.

Mounted on standoff spacers, the panel floats 15mm from the wall. Ambient light casts a layered shadow behind the steel, and as the sun moves through the room the tiger's outline sharpens and softens in turn — deeper and more atmospheric in the evening, crisp in direct light. It is a living quality that flat prints cannot replicate.

Available in five sizes from S (45 cm) to XXL (130 cm) on the longer side, each scaled to preserve the original's wide, horizontal proportions. Weight ranges from approximately 1.5 kg (S) to 8 kg (XXL). All finishes and sizing details are covered in the craft and delivery guide.
